A note from the editor
Welcome to Edition 90 of Bridge Magazine.
Continence Health Australia is so proud to have been continuously providing Australia’s only magazine
dedicated to bowel control, bladder control and pelvic health for 90 editions over the last 20 years.
This edition we celebrate carers and their dedication to ensuring their family, friend, or loved one has access to the care they need while maximising their quality of life.
We talk to 2026 Carer of the Year Award winner Muoy, who cared for her mum during the last years of her life while also caring for other elderly relatives and a young family. We hear from Carers NSW about how support groups can improve mental health, from geriatrician, Dr Lau, about looking after your bowels in hospital and from GP, Dr Crimmins, about navigating healthcare with a disability.
Also in this issue we look at how alcohol can impact continence with nurse, Bernie Riley, from Prostate Cancer Foundation Australia. We hear from Angelique who was diagnosed with neurogenic
urinary retention at age 20 and talk to urologist, Dr Chung, about symptoms and causes of neurogenic urinary retention.
We delve into the complex world of health advice from AI chatbots and talk to GP, Dr Roberts, to see what she makes of a ChatGPT answer to a health question on bladder control.
