We are proud to announce that the Carer of the Year 2026 is Muoy Kucan.
Continence Health Australia created this award to recognise the often-unseen role and impact of more than 3 million unpaid carers in Australia. We celebrate the care that defines their everyday contribution.
This year’s recipient, Muoy, has spent more than 20 years in caring roles, supporting both older and younger members of her family. Her response to their range of complex medical has been nothing short of remarkable.

Muoy stepped back from her work in early childhood education to focus fully on caring responsibilities at home, including caring for her mother, who lived with vascular dementia for several years.
Muoy was determined to honour her mother’s wish to remain at home, even in the face of increasing care needs. Continence care was one of the most difficult aspects, but the right support, including help from a continence nurse, gave Muoy the confidence and knowledge that made an enormous difference to her and her mum.

Sadly, shortly after we named Muoy Carer of the Year, her mother experienced a serious health event and was admitted to hospital. Through advocacy and support, Muoy was able to bring her mum home, where she spent her final days surrounded by family.
Muoy is passionate about the role of carers and encouraging others not to be afraid to talk about incontinence or to ask for help. Her story is an important reminder that carers do not have to do this alone.
We were delighted to present this award during the 34th National Continence Health Conference NCHC 2026 in Melbourne on 14 May 2026.
