SA / NT News

Through the Continence Foundation Community Health Promotion Grants program, we delivered a series of workshops in March to the Muslim Women’s Association of SA Inc.

Thank you to Continence Nurse Rosalie Donhardt and pelvic floor physiotherapists Sonia Sharfbillig and Annette Innes, who helped HPO Lisa Lawton present on healthy bladder and bowel habits, products and aids, and the pelvic floor. Interpreters in Uighur and Arabic conveyed this important information to the audience. The workshops were very well received by those who participated. One participant commented: “Now we know more! Before, we could not imagine what we did not know.”

On a visit to the Riverland and Kangaroo Island region in South Australia, Health Promotion Officer Lisa Lawton delivered presentations to various groups and set up several displays in libraries. The groups were very welcoming and found the information presented extremely useful. A highlight was the Loxton Men’s shed, where Lisa presented information about healthy bladder and bowel habits to a large group of men. The presentation generated extensive discussions on the topic.

Continence Foundation of Australia has health promotion officers around the states/territories who are available to deliver presentations on the habits for maintaining healthy bladders and bowels.

If your group seeks a tailored presentation on topics including pelvic floor exercises, specific chronic conditions, or the needs of specific age or cultural group, contact your state/territory’s Health Promotion Officer.
